The global chair role

G100 Club comprises 100 wings. Each wing is led by a Global Chair.

Role

The Global Chair is a senior leadership role within the G100 ecosystem, designed for accomplished global leaders who wish to contribute their commitment, creativity, consciousness, and calibre toward advancing the mission of G100: strengthening women’s leadership in all walks of life and bridging gender gaps.

Global Chairs act as strategic stewards and thought leaders, role models and activators, community builders and system changers, guiding the direction of their respective wings and inspiring leadership globally across 100 countries.

The role of the Global Chair includes wing building, network stewardship, evolving recommendations and actions, convening meetings, presenting G100 at various conferences, designing wing campaigns, guiding country chairs’ initiatives, et al.

Each chair also has a partner male ally (Denim Club) to help bridge gaps in gender solidarity. We also have an ELLEGOSSSE framework with 10 policy principles covering 100 recommendations that can be further followed up by the wings. Together, we drive change as a global solidarity for gender equality.

Invitation as a Global Chair is upon nomination by the G100 Secretariat, and we also welcome recommendations from fellow Global Chairs. Membership is free.

The role of a Global Chair is a high-visibility role with privileged access to fellow Global Chairs and senior leaders through the network and its meetings.

Actions:

Denim Club: The Global Chair nominates one Denim Club Global Partner—an influential He-for-She champion in support of the Global Chair and the wing.

Country Chairs: Each Global Chair nominates 100 women in 100 countries, one in each country, as Country Chair for the wing. Likewise, each Country Chair nominates 100 women in her country, and so on. Each wing thus develops 10,000 members at optimal capacity across 100 countries. When 100 wings achieve this, we will have one million gender champions worldwide working in synergy and solidarity across every sector of the economy and society.

Global Advisory Council: The Global Chair constitutes a Global Advisory Council—an honorary council of 20–100 distinguished leaders across geographies and sectors, including male allies—to support the Global Chair in leading and building the wing’s impact and influence.

Convening Country Clubs: The Global Chair may also convene country clubs of all wings where they are resident. For example, a Global Chair residing in Sweden can support and guide the G100 country clubs—i.e., all wings represented by country chairs therein, comprising all other local chairs and members. Together, they can plan outreach programmes with local authorities and institutions, strengthening partnerships and policy influence, becoming influential actors through collective power, reaping inter-wing synergies, interdisciplinary intelligence, and interconnected impact.

Practices:

The Global Chair sets the vision and strategy, as well as quantitative and qualitative milestones, in resonance with G100 guidelines. Regarding wing coordination, the Global Chair is welcome to set the rhythm as convenient and suited to their leadership style.

Best practices include:

• Making a roadmap for a two-year tenure with priority areas, policy pillars, key initiatives, milestones, and outcomes.

• Mobilising collective leadership, encouraging all country chairs to present their own roadmaps, weaving co-creation and collaboration with global vision and grassroots engagement.

• Setting up a strong Global Advisory Council, with members internally allocated roles such as wing coordination, social media presence, identifying new country chairs, scheduling a global calendar of events with country chairs, designing digital campaigns, and exploring inter-wing synergies, et al.

• Involving the leadership of the Global Denim Club Partner to empower He-for-She allyship and support.

• Creating a social media page for the wing and a roster for country chairs to plan digital posts, enhancing the work and visibility of the wing, including introductions of all wing chairs and members.

• Engaging with institutional partners such as universities and corporates, and envisaging joint programmes.

• Presenting G100 at local, international, and multilateral events and conferences.

• Collaborating with the Global President and fellow Global Chairs to strengthen cross-wing synergies.

• Collaborating with the SHEconomy app team for digital support and amplification of specific events and summits, and using the app’s tools for co-working, etc.

Tenure:

• Appointment is for two years, with potential renewal or transition to an advisory role.

• The role is honorary and voluntary, infused with a genuine and generous spirit of sisterhood, solidarity, service, and stewardship.

• Time commitment is flexible and aligned with one’s strategic perspective, networking prowess, and organisational deployment.

• The Global Chair may review the tenures of Country Chairs or change any wing roles at any time in the wing’s interest.

G100 Secretariat Coordination

• The Secretariat invites and welcomes the G100 Global Chair and the Denim Club Global Partner on official social platforms, as nominated by the Global Chair.

• The Global Chair sends recommended candidates (Country Chairs, Global Advisory Council members) to the G100 Secretariat with their names, emails, countries, social media links, and wing roles. The Secretariat then sends formal invitation letters and social media banners to the nominated candidates.

• The Secretariat features all banners of chairs on the official website.

• The Global Chair welcomes Country Chairs on wing or personal social media, and Country Chairs similarly welcome their State Chairs, and so on, reflecting distributed leadership—a key feature of our organisational system.
