Bridging Borders: G100 Japan Meetings Unite Estonian and Japanese Women Leaders
G100 Japan Meetings, alongside EXPO 2025, 15 September 2025
A beautiful blue and sunny day in September 2025 marked the beginning of the G100 in Japan with a symbolic and inspiring gathering in Osaka. This important meeting not only was the first meeting of G100 in Japan but also particularly focussed on strengthening ties between Estonian and Japanese women leaders.
The event was organized alongside the much-anticipated Expo 2025, which has positioned Osaka as a new international hub for innovation, collaboration, and cultural exchange. With this global backdrop, the G100 meeting carried special significance as it connected women leaders across borders to shape a more inclusive future.
The chosen venue was a stunning wooden building along the riverside, an architectural representation of Osaka as a water city. This location was deeply symbolic, acting as a “bridge” between the waterfront, the city, and its people. Likewise, the G100 meeting served as a bridge between Estonian and Japanese women leaders, connecting their diverse experiences and aspirations.
The gathering began with warm greetings by Ms. Malle Post, a representative of ÄND Women from Estonia, whose leadership underlined the spirit of international cooperation. The meeting was skillfully facilitated by Ms. Hideko Nishioka, the organizer of this initiative, who ensured meaningful dialogue and exchange.
Adding further inspiration, Ms. Moto Nami from the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry introduced the Women’s Leader Award, a program supported by the Chamber to highlight and honor the outstanding contributions of women leaders.
As the meeting unfolded, each participant shared her personal career journey and spoke about her future aspirations. These speeches reflected a common understanding—that while women may come from different cultures and career paths, their similarities are more powerful than their differences.
The stories revealed that women across the world face many of the same challenges: balancing professional responsibilities with family life, overcoming barriers to leadership, and carving a space for themselves in competitive environments. Recognizing these shared issues helped the participants see the importance of working together globally to find solutions.
The wonderful speeches left a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. They not only highlighted the power of personal experience but also underscored the collective strength of women when they unite across boundaries.
The discussions emphasized the need to continue exploring both innovative ideas and practical measures to ensure women’s full participation in society. By looking from a broader perspective and a higher viewpoint, women leaders can identify effective ways to create lasting change.
As Osaka prepares to welcome the world during Expo 2025, the G100 – Japan Meetings stand as a timely and visionary effort. By connecting Estonian and Japanese women leaders, this initiative has laid the foundation for global dialogue and cooperation that will shape the future of women’s leadership.
