Dr. Maja Stevkova Shterieva

Dr. Maja Stevkova Shterieva is the President of the Macedonian Banking Association and Chief Financial Officer at Komercijalna Banka, the largest bank in Skopje, North Macedonia. Born in 1970 in Skopje, she is a dedicated economist with a strong academic and professional background in finance.

She earned her Ph.D. in Economic Sciences in 2012 from the University “St. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, with a focus on “Operational Risk and Corporate Governance.” In 2000, she completed her Master’s degree in Monetary Economics from the same university, concentrating on “Asset and Liability Management in Banking.” Her international training includes a Risk Management Program completed in the United States in 2000, organized by the University of Wisconsin and Georgetown University. Most recently, she participated in the Executive Program on Corporate Management organized by AOTS in Tokyo.

Maja Stevkova Shterieva currently serves on the Board of Directors of Komercijalna Banka and represents North Macedonia in the European Banking Federation’s Associate Members Group as President of the Macedonian Banking Association.

She is a strong advocate for women’s rights, equality, and social responsibility. Since 2009, as President of the Coordination Group for Corporate Social Responsibility at Komercijalna Banka, she has led numerous initiatives supporting women, especially victims of domestic violence. These include financing the Center for Victims of Family Violence in Skopje, supporting the publication of the “Manual for the Treatment of Women Victims of Family Violence,” and backing the project “Economic Strengthening of Women in Rural Areas and Victims of Family Abuse.”

Beyond her executive responsibilities, she is actively involved in governance and education. She is a Member of the Supervisory Board of “KB Prvo,” a pension fund company, former President of the Board of the Academy of Banking and IT Foundation, and a former Board Member of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Macedonia.

Committed to the development of younger generations, Maja Stevkova Shterieva also serves as a lecturer in “Entrepreneurial Finance” at the Faculty of Economics, University American College, Skopje. She has previously lectured on “Managing Risk” at Staffordshire University’s Faculty of Business and Law in collaboration with New York University in Skopje.
