Bernard Swanepoel

Bernard Swanepoel is a highly respected Non-Executive Director at Implats, Zimplats, Manganese Metal Company (MMC), and THINKspiration, with over 40 years of experience in the mining industry, more than 25 of which have been spent in senior and executive leadership roles. A qualified mining engineer with a BSc in Mining Engineering from the University of Pretoria (Tuks), Bernard also holds a B.Com (Hons) in Financial Management from UNISA and a Mine Manager Certificate of Competency. He matriculated at Hoërskool Bergsig in Rustenburg. In 2008, he co-founded To The Point Growth Specialists with Clinton Halsey, a boutique consulting and investment firm.

Bernard has an extensive board portfolio, having served 11 years on the board of Sanlam and 15 years on the board of African Rainbow Minerals. He is currently a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Impala Platinum (Implats), Zimplats, and the African Exploration Mining and Finance Corporation (AEMFC). He is also the Chairman of Manganese Metal Company. A respected leader in business advocacy, Bernard is the past President of the AHI and was the inaugural Chair of the Small Business Institute (SBI), a national business chamber.

Through To The Point Growth Specialists, Bernard co-owns Resources for Africa Investment Conferences, which hosts some of the mining industry’s leading conferences, including the Joburg Indaba, Junior Indaba, London Indaba, Coal & Energy Transition Day, and the PGMs Industry Day—all of which he chairs. Alongside his wife Tracey, he also leads THINKspiration, a consulting venture focused on strategy alignment, culture change, and leadership development. Bernard recently registered as a member of the Institute of Directors. Beyond the boardroom, he is deeply connected to the land, owning and operating a cattle farm in Limpopo and co-owning a macadamia farm in Mpumalanga. Bernard combines deep industry expertise with a passion for business, leadership, and sustainable development.
