Thanh Bui is an award-winning Australian-Vietnamese singer-songwriter, with numerous gold records and Number 1 hit songs around the world to his name.
Upon returning to Vietnam in 2011, he established himself as one of the leading artists in the country but more notably, Thanh has won the hearts of the people through his passion for raising the awareness of the importance of music / arts education in particular, and education in general, to develop a new generation of Vietnamese children.
Thanh has been on the forefront of leading social change through his Ambassadorships with the United Nations, Wilderness Foundation, Wild-Aid … he believes that the arts is a very powerful medium to push change. Thanh’s passion has seen him build an eco-system, from grassroots to industry, to support the arts in Vietnam – from education, to arts/culture, to media, he hopes to shape Vietnam’s future through the arts. In 2004, Thanh Bui officially entered the music industry as part of the Australian boy band North.
The band became popular in Asia, having numerous top ten hits in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and India. After leaving North in 2006, Thanh pursued a career as songwriter, penning over 600 songs which were accepted not only in Australia, but in Germany, Japan and Korea. in 2008, Thanh decided to go back to his passion as a singer and entered into the hit tv show Australian Idol. Thanh qualified into the final 10 and placed 8th overall. A massive milestone for Asians artists. In 2009, Thanh was invited by the producers of Paris By Night, a popular music festival show for Vietnamese abroad, to perform a mixture of songs. This brought attention from audiences in Vietnam and the signs were there for his return to his heritage.
The following year, Thanh committed his life back to Vietnam and soon released his debut single “Forbidden” to critical acclaim. National success came very fast, with Thanh releasing hit after hit. Soon his ambition of further international success came to the fore and began collaborating with artists from other countries, writing and featuring on many tracks. These hits included “Where Do We Go” with Thailand’s biggest superstar, TaTa Young, and writing, producing and featuring on BTS’s first hit “Danger”. From then on Thanh continued to travel around the globe collaorating with some of the biggest writers and producers, including RedOne (Lady Gaga, Enrique Iglesias) and uber writer, Wayne Hector (Britney Spears, One Direction, Nicki Minaj). Soon after, another calling came. Thanh’s love of teaching music never diminished during his career as an artist and songwriter. The importance of the arts and the power it can give to a child’s holistic development was something he recognized early in his life. In 2013 Thanh founded SOUL Music & Performing Arts Academy (SMPAA), an international-level education institution with a vision of teaching music to enhance a child’s confidence, communication skills and connectivity to the world but to also, develop new Vietnamese role-models for the country’s music industry.
This path led him to introduce the prestigious Trinity College London Certifications for the first time in Vietnam in 2013. Three years later, in 2016, Thanh founded Asia Music & Performing Arts Education (AMPA), an Australian based Charity registered by The Australian Charities and the ACNC. Thanh’s long-term vision and mission is to uplift the quality of music and performing arts education, not only in Vietnam, but also in the Southeast-Asia region, In 2017, Thanh founded Embassy Education Group, an innovative education system with a curriculum based on The Reggio Emilia Approach and The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
Bringing together a number of the world’s top educators, Thanh hopes to build a new methodology of education for future citizens of Vietnam, and the world. That year Thanh also became an esteemed Eisenhower Fellow as the only representative of Vietnam for 2017. With General Colin Powell as Chairman of the fellowship, this organization is focused on developing young leaders for the future. Within the last 3 years, Thanh has founded some extraordinary projects and companies, linking the arts to education to industry and finally society. Here are a few examples of recent achievements: EDUCATION: – Kindermusik Vietnam. – Dreamspace. – Tring Cong Son Scholarship for specially gifted students from underprivileged backgrounds.

EVENTS: – Countdown for Ho Chi Minh: The official new year’s eve event for Ho Chi Minh city. Attendance average 80,000 people. Thanh Bui has served as head of Countdown as well as performer. Countdown has been under his management for last 4 years.
