H.E. Natalia Royo de Hagerman

H.E. Natalia Royo de Hagerman is Former Ambassador and public figure, Excellency Natalia comes from a legacy of political and diplomatic leadership. Excellency Royo has held several positions in the Panamanian foreign service and international organizations. In her last position as Ambassador of Panama in the UK and Ireland, she was in charge of lobby and negotiations to elect a Panamanian as Secretary General to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). During her tenure she was elected Vice President of Women in Diplomacy organisation and representative of latin american countries to negotiate multilateral and regional cooperation in the UK. During her tenure, she achieved the increase of scholarships awarded by government, foundations and private universities in the UK and Ireland, the hiring of seafarers in multinational shipping companies, the establishment of new UK and Irish companies in Panama to operate regionally and the cooperation from UK gov to projects related to the protection of the environment. Previously, she was Counsellor at the Mission of Panama to the United Nations, where she oversaw the economic commission and led the negotiations of the Development Agenda and the action programmes of the IV World Conference on Women and the World Summit for Social Development. Natalia Royo was also the coordinator for the Rio Group, formed by 14 Latin American countries and was in charge of conciliating the group’s positions before the United Nations and presenting them to the various commissions. She continued her diplomatic career at the Mission of Panama to the Organisation of American States (OAS) during the XXVI General Assembly hosted by Panama and she also worked with the Permanent Mission of Panama to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). She spent 8 years at the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) based in Madrid where she managed evaluations of the multilateral cooperation programmes among Latin American governments approved at the Ibero-American Summits of Heads of State and Government. She was also in charge of communication and visibilty campaigns and organisation of dialogues between the public and private sector. Ambassador Royo was in charge of Communications Dpt at the CODESPA Foundation for economic and social development in Latin America. Natalia Royo was also Counsellor at the Embassy of Panama in Spain, overseeing political and economic affairs. Excellency Natalia Royo has published articles on Panama in the Fundacion Real Instituto Elcano and a study on the Panama Canal and other alternate routes published in Acta Geographica No. 21 of Paris, France. She studied journalism at the New York University (NYU) in the United States and has a master’s degree on International Relations from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University, a master’s degree in Political Communications and a second master’s degree on International Affairs from Fundacion Ortega y Gasset/Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain.
